Using Jessica F. Shumway’s book Number Sense Routines: Building Mathematical Understanding Every Day in Grades 3-5 as a resource (provided to participants), teachers will explore a variety of number sense routines, facilitated by Sandra Fox (CAM Team). We will explore the routines in the book and others. Teachers will have the opportunity to try the routines with their students and share their experiences with the group. Participants will have what they need to implement at least one routine directly after the first session. There will be a place on Teams for participants to gather or communicate between meetings.
This book club is targeted at teachers of grades 3 through 5.
We will meet on Teams. An invitation will be sent out a few days prior to the first session.
Participants will receive a copy of the book after the first session. This is to support participation in the group. It is expected that by registering, participants are committing to attend all four sessions, to try routines with their students between meetings, and contribute to discussions about the book and their experiences in class.
Dates: April 6, April 27, May 11, May 25
Time: 3:30-5:30 (first session), 3:30-5:00 (subsequent sessions)
The first meeting is scheduled for 2 hours and subsequent meetings are planned to be 90 minutes long,
depending on the needs of the group.
