This course provides a comprehensive overview of ASD, with an emphasis on topics relevant to the school setting. These topics include basics of ASD, individual differences, understanding and changing behaviour, social and communication skills, life skills, and much more! Participants are given ample opportunity to participate in practical hands-on activities, and application exercises that will prepare them to apply the concepts and strategies into their instructional program. By the end of this course, participants will be equipped with knowledge about ASD and the tools to support the unique needs of these students.
This 5-day, 30-hour, intensive practical course is being offered to SSAs working at any grade level (K – 12) to support students with ASD in developing their social, academic, and adaptive skills. Presenter - Rebecca Pawlowski from POPARD
To Note: A variety of formative and summative assessments will be taking place within the training, culminating in a final mark that will appear on the certificate. Participants must attend all 5 days of training to receive a certificate. SSAs will be paid for the Saturday training. A Zoom link will be sent to all registered participants prior to the first course.
Audience: SSAs in permanent positions who have not previously received this POPARD training.
