Social skills are a key aspect for a student with ASD to gain greater steps towards making meaningful lasting connections. Social skills enhance a student’s participation in the community and support outcomes like happiness and friendships. Students with ASD often have a strong desire to interact with peers and others but they don’t know how to engage appropriately or may be overwhelmed by the idea of these social interactions. This workshop will include the following:

  • What is Social Cognition and the components that make up a social interaction
  • Difficulties students with ASD face with social skills
  • Understanding perspective taking and the type of perspective taker your student is
  • Assessing social skills
  • Interventions to support social skills deficits
